APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • qmstatus.ini should have -rw-rw-r-- mqm:mqm (664) permissions.
If qmstatus.ini permissions are changed while the queue manager
is running, say to 400, endmqm does not return an error. The
output is still the normal output as follows:

    Normal end:
Quiesce request accepted. The queue manager will stop when all
    outstanding work is complete.

    Immediate end:
IBM MQ queue manager 'TESTQM' ending.
IBM MQ queue manager 'TESTQM' ended.

In both cases, the return code of endmqm is zero, and the error
logs do not log anything related to this.

Local fix

  • Ensure that the qmstatus.ini file has the correct file
    permissions and ownership: -rw-rw-r-- (0644) mqm:mqm

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Any user that sets the file permissions on qmstatus.ini
different to the default "read/write" for group and user mqm for
    the qmststus.ini file

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If the file permissions on qmstatus.ini are not set correctly, a
programming error in the MQ code causes status changes to be
lost without any error being evident to the user.

Problem conclusion

  • In addition to being logged to the error logs, an error message
indicating the access problem is displayed in endmqm and error
code 71 is returned by the program.
