APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After an IBM Spectrum Protect client installation
dsmcad.service file has executable permission which causes the
following error to be logged every 10 seconds in
/var/log/messages:
systemd: Configuration file
/etc/systemd/system/dsmcad.service is marked executable. Please
remove executable permission bits. According to RHEL
documentation, service files should have 0644 permission and
systemd warns in case of different, non-default, permissions.

Local fix

  • chmod 644 /etc/systemd/system/dsmcad.service

Problem summary

Problem conclusion

  • Linux installation packages ship dsmcad.service file for systemd
distributions.
This file was delivered with incorrect set of permissions. In
such case systemd issues warning messages to /var/log/messages
periodically, which is undesirable behavior.
The file permissions were updated, so the warning messages no
longer appears.
