IT35483: THE VSNAP SOFTWARE WAS INSTALLED/UPDATED BUT THE LINUX KERNEL COULD NOT BE INSTALLED/UPDATED. THE VSNAP SERVICES MAY NOT START

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Vsnap server install or update fails
  to
  install the RPM but continues to the kernel update. The
  
  following misleading message is displayed in the
  install.log:
  
  "The vSnap software was installed/updated but the
  Linux
  kernel could not be installed/updated. The vSnap
  services
  may not start."
  
  This problem can occur in versions
  10.1.5, 10.1.6 and 10.1.7
  Customer/Support Diagnostics:
  
  Run
  the command "rpm -qa" to check the version of the "vsnap"
  package.
  If it is missing or it still shows older version, it
  means the install or update
  did not work. .

Problem conclusion

• The vSnap installation code was fixed to ensure an accurate
  error message is shown when the main vSnap RPM fails to install.
  It no longer shows a misleading error about the kernel. Instead,
  the installation process stops as soon as the main RPM fails to
  install, and the on-screen messages indicate the correct reason
  for the failure.
