Error description

  • After upgrading to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.7, CATALOG
    BACKUP fails with these errors:

    ERROR,<id>,<date&time>,2,CTGGA0848,Copying file
    /data/lucene/lucidx/_5av_Lucene41_0.doc failed. Reason:
We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local
System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three
    things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
     #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great
    responsibility.

sudo: no tty present and no askpass program
    specified rsync: connection unexpectedly closed
(0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol
    data stream (code 12) at io.c(226) [sender=3.1.2]

    Above error
will be displayed multiple times in virgo.log

    Starting with
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus 10.1.7, catalog backup process uses
rsync instead of nfs to copy the data to the VSNAP.
An issue was discovered that, when not using SERVERADMIN
to register the catalog backup target vSnap in
IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, incorrect permissions are configured
    at this destination VSNAP.

Local fix

  • Change the user account that is used when registering the VSNAP
Server into IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, to the predefined
    Serveradmin user:
     - Connect to IBM Spectrum Protect Plus GUI
     - Navigate to System Configuration - Backup Storage DISK
     - EDIT the related VSNAP user and change to SERVERADMIN

If Fresh install of 10.1.7 with serveradmin user used, it
still may fail with the same error. Verify the file
/etc/sudoers.d/serveradmin on the vSnap server and verify
    it contains the following:

       Defaults !requiretty

Problem conclusion

  • When a non-serveradmin user is created on vSnap using CLI
command "vsnap user create", the resulting account has limited
sudo privileges which did not include permission to run rsync as
needed for the new catalog backup mechanism in IBM Spectrum
Protect Plus 10.1.7. The problem has been resolved by adding
rsync to the list of privileges associated with these user
    accounts.
