Error description
A scheduled snapdiff backup may report as being successful despite backing up zero objects due to access denied errors. This needs to report as a failed schedule. Currently the rc is reported as a 4, which will be changed to a 12. Wording will be addressed to change the backup to be reported as a failure. The following is currently reported: Performing a Full Incremental Backup of volume '/nas123/volumexyz' Creating Base Snapshot. Using Base Snapshot 'TSM_123456789_VOLUMEXYZ' with timestamp 05/16/2020 09:05:54 ANS4007E Error processing '/nas123/volumexyz/.snapshot/TSM_123456789_VOLUMEXYZ/folder1': access to the object is denied ANS4007E Error processing '/nas123/volumexyz/.snapshot/TSM_123456789_VOLUMEXYZ/folder2': access to the object is denied ANS4007E Error processing '/nas123/volumexyz/.snapshot/TSM_123456789_VOLUMEXYZ/file1': access to the object is denied ANS2327I Creating Snapshot Differential Change Log. Updating--> 0 /nas123/volumexyz/.bplusvtoc_internal [Sent] Updating--> 0 /nas123/volumexyz/.vtoc_internal [Sent] Successful incremental backup of '/nas123/volumexyz' This change will only apply to directories processed against the base snapshot snapdiff backup. Problem conclusion
The logic has been changed so that a snapshot differential backup operation ends with return code 12 if an "access denied" error occurs for the snapshot directory or a child directory immediately below the snapshot directory. The completion status is "failed" for operations that use the IBM Spectrum Protect scheduler. The logic is unchanged if an "access denied" error occurs for a more deeply nested directory. That is, the object is skipped and the return code is set to 4. The completion status is "successful" for operations that use the IBM Spectrum Protect scheduler. Refer to the "Client return codes" chapter in the product documentation for more information about return codes and completion status.
