Error description

  • When performing a No-query restore (NQR) with IBM Spectrum
Protect client backup version 8.1 with many directory objects,
the NQR might be slow on UNIX and Linux platforms. The NQR
slows down since directories are being added to a processing
list but processed directories do not get removed from this
processing list. The more directories to be restored, the
longer the processing list grows, increasing the elapsed
    processing time.

An example of a slow NQR might show:
Total number of objects restores: 60,003
Total number of objects failed: 0
Total number of bytes transferred: 240,78 MB
     Data transfer time: 1.02 Sec
Network data transfer rate: 227,121.34 KB/sec
Aggregate data transfer rate: 1.056.24 KB/sec
     Elapsed processing time: 00:03:34

With the fix installed, the NQR might show:
Total number of objects restores: 60,003
Total number of objects failed: 0
Total number of bytes transferred: 240,78 MB
     Data transfer time: 2.83 Sec
Network data transfer rate: 90,347.34 KB/sec
Aggregate data transfer rate: 4.056.24 KB/sec
     Elapsed processing time: 00:00:57

    Customer/Support Diagnostics: None

IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected: IBM Spectrum Protect
Client 8.1.0 and higher on UNIX and Linux platforms

    Initial Impact: Medium

Additional Keywords: TS003253898 Linux Unix restore slow NQR

Local fix

  • Use the option "DISABLENQR YES".
