Error description

  • The IBM Storage Insights Data Collector installation is
successful but the Data Collector Windows service doesn't start:

"Windows could not start the IBM Spectrum Control Storage
Insights data collector - C:\DataCollector on Local Computer.
For more information, review the System Event Log. If this is a
non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to
    service-specific error code 0."

    In the <DataCollector_directory>\log\winservice.log:
Fri Feb 28 12:29:42 2020 Starting data collector...
    Fri Feb 28 12:29:42 2020 Invoking script
    "D:\DataCollector\bin\collectorSrvStartJava.bat"
Fri Feb 28 12:29:45 2020 Failed to start data collector. Java
    process exited with code 0
    Fri Feb 28 12:29:45 2020 SetServiceStatus failed

The service fails to start because the installer fails to create
a watch dog process. This is due to a wmic namespace
    issue:

    wmic process call create
    C:\datacollector\bin\collectorSrvWatchDog.bat process - Alias
    not found

To check if there is a namespace issue run this Windows
    command:

    wmic computersystem get name

If the results of the command do not list the hostname, or the
results list error, then please check with your Windows server
team to resolve the problem. An example of an error is:

    C:\Windows\system32>wmic computersystem get name
    ERROR:
    Description = Invalid namespace
