APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Connect and read timeout options like
    mail.imap.connectiontimeout and mail.imap.timeout are required
    for EmailInput node to avoid indefinite socket wait calls that
    can cause a hang in the thread .
    
    Also a user may want release the IIB cached connections of
    EmailInput node after certain period of inactivity so that a
    fresh connection is made.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    All User of App Connect Enterprise V11 and IBM Integration bus
    V10 using the EmailInput node.
    
    
    Platforms affected:
    z/OS, MultiPlatform
    
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    The EmailInput node may become unresponsive (hang) when there
    are delays (indefinite wait) in the underlying socket
    communication to the email server.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The EmailServer policy(and the EmailServer configurable service
    in V10) has been extended with 3 new properties to specify the
    timeout value to the underlying socket connections. The 3 new
    properties are
    
    1. emailConnectionTimeout : EmailInput node's underlying socket
    connection timeout value in seconds. Default is infinite
    timeout.
    
    2. emailReadTimeout : EmailInput node's underlying socket read
    timeout value in seconds. Default is infinite timeout.
    
    3. emailConnectionIdleTimeout  : Idle connection(ie. connection
    with no mails received) timeout in seconds. Default is infinite.
    The connection will be closed if idle timeout exceeds for a new
    connection to open.
    
    In a reported customer case, the values are set to 5,5 and 300
    respectively to resolve a hang issue with EmailInput node.
