Error description

  • The problem may occur as below:

    Step 1: On a Windows cluster (e.g. cluster_name_1), take a
    backup data.

Step 2: Use export/import node commands to transfer the backup
    data to another environment.

Step 3: On one of the cluster nodes in the another environment,
    run 'dsmc query backup <drive pathe> -asnodename=<cluster name>'
    command.
The dsmc command may fails with ANS1083E.

For example, the following command may fails at the step 3:
    - dsmc query backup X:\ -asnodename=cluster_name_1
This command may return "ANS1083E No files have previously been
    archived for 'X:\' ".

This problem may also occur in following operations:
    - Issuing restore/query archive/retrieve command instead of
    query backup.
    - Using virtualnodename option instead of asnodename.

    Customer/Support Diagnostics (If Applicable):

When this problem occurs, the service trace shows that the
client is using cluster name of the another environment instead
of asnodename value constructing the UNC name.

    e.g.
Cluster: cluster_name_1 - the cluster where the backup was
taken so file space on server is '\\cluster_name_1\x$'.

Cluster: cluster_name_2 - the cluster where the
    "query/restore" command were running.
Cluster node: node_name - the node name in the cluster
    cluster_name_2.

    asnodename cluster_name_1
    nodename node_name

    ...

The ASNODENAME cluster_name_1 was specified so the unc name for
X: should be \\cluster_name_1\x$ but it is \\cluster_name_2\x$.

    IBM Spectrum Protect Versions Affected:
All supported versions of IBM Tivoli Storage Manager and
Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client on Windows platform

    Initial Impact:
    Middle

    Additional Keywords:
    TS003157321, TSM

Local fix

  • - Set "CLUSTERDISKSONLY NO" option in the client options file
(dsm.opt) when query (or restore, etc.) command runs.

    - Specfiy filespace name instead of the drive path, as below:
    dsmc query backup \\cluster_name_1\X$ -asnodename=cluster_name_1

Problem conclusion

  • Internal routine that handles the ASNODENAME option has been
updated to correctly construct UNC name.
