Error description
The backup or archive operation run with the IBM Spectrum Protect backup-archive client can stop when the following conditions are met : - the SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS is set to VSS - Starting at 8.1.8 the VSS is the default value for SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS - the 'filelist' option points to a file that contains remote shares paths to be archived or backed up - the 'filelist' file is placed on a local drive The operation will fail in the following manner: Command used : dsmc.exe archive -filelist="C:\temp\filelist.txt" Messages: Preparing to backup ''\\network\share\' using 'VSS' snapshot. ANS1377W The client was unable to obtain a snapshot of '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy459'. The operation will continue without snapshot support. ANS1228E Sending of object '\\network\share\file.txt' failed. ANS4005E Error processing '\\network\share\file.txt': file not found ANS1803E Archive processing of '\temp\filelist.txt' finished with failures. The SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS can be specified in different ways: - Set the option in the client's options file (dsm.opt) - Specified on a cloptset on the IBM Spectrum Protect Server - Passed in from client command line (-snapshotproviderfs=vss) - Specified in a schedule definition on the IBM Spectrum Protect Server. Local fix
There are 2 ways to bypass the problem: 1- The Filelist file containing remote shares paths can be placed on a local disk if the client option SNAPSHOTPROVIDERFS is set to NONE. It can be done changing the client option on the client options file (dsm.opt) or including -snapshotproviderfs=none in the command line arguments. 2- Place the filelist on the remote share. When backing up multiple remote share paths, you can place the filelist file in any remote share.

Problem conclusion
