IT30023: MMMOUNT MIGHT HANG UPON A FAILOVER DUE TO AN OBSOLETE SPACE MANAGEMENT CLIENT DMAPI SESSION

Error description

  • The Spectrum Scale (GPFS) mmmount command might hang trying to
    mount an LTFS file system upon a failure / reboot of the GPFS
    node where the Space Management (HSM) client had been running.
    During an automatic HSM failover operation caused by the GPFS
    failure, to mitigate possible problems with destroy of GPFS
    DMAPI sessions, the Space management client should have forcibly
    cleared the mount event disposition for the dsmrecalld DMAPI
    session that belonged to the failed/failing node.
    As a result, the dsmrecalld DMAPI session might not be destroyed
    and became obsolete, so that any subsequent mount GPFS DMAPI
    event would hang waiting for an HSM response that would never
    come.
    
    
    Customer/Support Diagnostics:
    In dsmerror.log, on the takeover HSM client node:
    ANS9531E dsmrecalld: cannot create a DM session: old session =
    5D30AC1E session info = dsmrecalld.
    Reason : File exists
    

Local fix

  • Restart LTFS and Spectrum Scale on the primary control node
