IT29223: SPECTRUM PROTECT SERVER INSTALLATION FAILS TO INSTALL DB2 AND LOGS ERRORS ANRI1019E AND DBI20043E WHEN /TMP HAS NOEXEC

APAR status

Error description

  • The Spectrum Protect server installation fails to install DB2
    when /tmp is mounted with noexec. The following error is logged:
    
    ANRI1019E: The DB2 installation failed. To review errors and
    correct any issues, review the log files in
    /var/ibm/InstallationManager/logs/native.
    
    The db2 install log shows the following error :
    
    DBI20043E  DB2 failed to install because of restrictive
    permission settings on the temporary directory /tmp
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics :
    In this case, although /tmp is not mounted with noexec,
    there is a remnant /tmp tmpfs noexec mount entry in mtab.
    For example :
    [root@abc tmp]# grep -w /tmp /etc/mtab
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec 0 0
    /dev/sdb1 /tmp ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 0
    
    This is an issue with the db2setup script, which was originally
    documented in DB2 APAR IT13674.
    
    A new DB2 APAR, IT29170, implements additional changes to the
    db2setup script to detect when /tmp is overmounted with a
    different filesystem with correct parameters.

    All IBM Spectrum Protect server versions 7.1.3 and higher
    on UNIX and Linux.
    

Local fix

  • Prior to performing installation, verify if /tmp is overmounted
    with a different filesystem. Ensure that noexec is not used
    on any configured /tmp filesystem.
