IT29024: SQL FULL BACKUP FAILS DUE TO VDI PERMISSIONS ISSUE. AS A RESULT,SQL LOG BACKUP TERMINATES ABNORMALLY.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • To start doing log backups a one time full backup is required.
    Spectrum Protect Plus uses VDI functions to do the full
    backup. The full backup fails because of the VDI permissions
    issue on the server, like error 0x80070005. As a result,
    subsequent SQL log backup terminates abnormally with following
    error in command.log:

    target folder [\\xx.xxx.x.xx\vpool1_fsxx\<SQL DB Name>].
    [date time] JobLog 15900 Thread-1 agent_sql_log: Backing up the
    transaction log.

    encountered while backing up transaction logs:
    Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Common.ExecutionFailureException:
    An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement
    or batch. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: BACKUP LOG
    cannot be performed because there is no current database backup.
    BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.
    
    There is no fallback approach in case SQL VDI fails.

Problem conclusion
