IT28659: CLIENT MEMORY LEAK IN GSKIT OPERATIONS

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Due to a memory leak in GSKit operations, the memory consumption
  of a long running IBM Spectrum Protect client process can
  increase, and the process might become functionless eventually.
  
  Although any process can be affected that runs IBM Spectrum
  Protect client code, the symptom is typically observed in
  combination with the IBM Spectrum Protect for ERP product family
  when the prole daemon operates with the API client module.
  
  Customer / support diagnostics
  ------------------------------
  Monitor the prole daemon once a day for memory consumption.
  As you cannot know the type of leak in advance, open files
  should also be checked, because the symptoms of a
  handle leak are similar to a memory leak:
  
  ps aux | grep prole > 2019-04-04_ps.out
  lsof -p procID > 2019-04-04_lsof.out
  (Replace procID with the procID found in the 'ps' output.
  Replace 2019-04-04 with the current date.)
  
  Continue this monitoring for a complete cycle from the start of
  the prole daemon until it becomes defunct, at least for 1 week.
  
  Product versions affected: 7.1 Client versions 7.1.8.0 and above
                             8.1 Client versions 8.1.2.0 and above
                             All platforms affected.

Local fix

• Workaround:
  For immediate relief, restart the memory leaking process.
  
  Solution:
  Because of significant improvements, the use of backup-archive
  client v8.1.7.0 is recommended until the official fix becomes
  available.
