IT26694: IBM SPECTRUM PROTECT PLUS FILE INDEXING FAILS ON WINDOWS CORE SERVERS

APAR status

Error description

  • File indexing fails on Windows Core servers. This includes
    Windows 2012 and Windows 2016.
    Virgo log will show:
    Service delivered. Ready for installation
    Retrieve from c:\ProgramData\SPP\staging\sppcmd.log to
    /data/log/guestdeployer/XXXX-XX-XX/XXXXXXXXXXXXX/192.1.2.3/sppcm
    d.log
    Exception encountered. Code 1. Error: File not Found
    Unable to get installation log file. Error Unable to retrieve
    file sppcmd.log from 192.1.2.3. e=java.lang.Exception: Error=
    File not Found
    Versions affected: 10.1.0, 10.1.1, 10.1.2

Local fix

  • -Using a sftp client, copy the agent and tools manually from the
    SPP server to the windows client
    For the agent:
    -/opt/ECX/guesttools/windows/x64/agent/agent.zip (you'll need to
    use a sftp client to connect to the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    server).
    -Create file c:\temp\agent\config.json with the following
    contents
    {"guestSettings":{"workingDirGuest":"c:\\ProgramData\\SPP
    ","serviceName":"sppagent","version":null}}
        Copy to c:\temp\agent, open a CMD prompt,enter commands
        cd c:\temp\agent.
        sppagent -i
    This will install the agent on to the guest.
    For the tools
    -/opt/ECX/guesttools/windows/x64/tools/tools.zip (you'll need to
    use a sftp client to connect to the IBM Spectrum Protect Plus
    server).
    -Copy to the Windows machine, and unzip the zip file to
    C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM Spectrum Protect Plus\tools
    -Alternatively copy the tools directory from a working server to
    C:\Program Files\IBM\IBM Spectrum Protect Plus\tools
