IT26104: INCOMPATIBLE GSKIT VERSIONS CAUSE OPERATION FAILURES IN IBM SPECTRUM PROTECT WITH RC30

APAR status

• Closed as documentation error.

Error description

• In environments where different versions of GSKit are installed,
  the IBM Spectrum Protect Backup/Archive client and API will
  report operation failures.  Failures are reported when other
  applications deliver a GSKit version which is newer than the
  version delivered with IBM Spectrum Protect.
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
  In situations where this problem occurs, backups can report a
  Return Code 30, and something similar to the following will be
  seen in a service trace:
  GSKKMlib::psLoadFunctions(): LoadGSKitLibrary() failed for file
  'gsk8km_64.dll': rc = 127
  GSKitPasswordFile::GSKitPasswordFile:psLoadFunctions failed with
  error 5802
  
  Versions Affected:
  Backup-Archive Clients 7.1.8, and 8.1.2 and higher on all
  Supported platforms
  
  Initial Impact: Low

Local fix

• Use the instructions in the guide to create a symbolic link if
  the GSKit supplied with the Backup-Archive Client is newer than
  the other application's GSKit.  If the other application's GSKIt
   is newer than the GSKit supplied by the Backup-Archive Client,
  then the REVERSE of the instructions in the guide will be
  required to resolve the issue (create a symbolic link in the IBM
   Spectrum Protect Client's gskit directory to point to the path
  of the newer GSKit).

Problem conclusion

• The corrected information will be published with the IBM
