Error description

  • Problem Statement
    Enable Heap Dump on Sigquit/Ctrl-break does not work as expected
    on Windows.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. ?Enable Heap Dump on Sigquit/Ctrl-break" option in the
    performance wizard (Menu:
    Operations - System - Performance - Tuning) and save.
    
    2. Stop SI.
    
    3. Run setupfiles (it will re-install the services)
    
    4. Start SI again.
    
    Then the PsExec?s SendSignal <Noapp_PID> command only creates
    the javacore file. No heap dump in customer's environment.
    

Local fix

  • Edit <install>/bin/InstallNoappsWindowsService.cmd.in
    1.  Change on or about line 133 (line numbers may change from
    release to relase) from: echo -Xdump\:heap\:none>> %PARAM_FILE%
    
    To:
    REM echo -Xdump\:heap\:none>> %PARAM_FILE%
    
    2.  Insert lines 152 to 155 to:
    else (
            echo -Xdump\:heap\:none>> %PARAM_FILE%
        )
    3. Stop SI
    4. Run <install>/bin/setupfiles.cmd
    5. Restart SI

    Problem Description:
    Java heap dumps are configured using the -Xdump JVM command line
    option.  This option is configured during execution of the
    setupfiles.sh script.  The -Xdump command line option is
    defined more than once, each time with a conflicting value.
    Depending on the order of definition, and depending on the
    version of Windows on the host platform, the options might
    disable requested heap dump functionality.
