Error description

  • When tracing a multi-threaded application with the below
    settings:

       strmqtrc -t all -t detail -e -l <size>

the .TRC file for the application process starts wrapping
successfully and one .TRS files is generated. However, after a
few minutes, the .TRC file grows over the size specified in the
    '-l' option.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users tracing a multi-threaded application who specify the '-l'
switch to strmqtrc to enable wrapping trace with a limited trace
    file size.

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A logic error in the MQ trace routines exposed a timing window
when trace was being generated concurrently on multiple threads.
In this window, it was possible for the logic to wrap the trace
file to be skipped, resulting in additional trace being written,
and the requested file size limit exceeded.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQ code has been updated to make sure the log files wrap-up
correctly at size specified using '-l' switch when running
    trace.
