Error description

  • Using a backup queue manager as described in the IBM MQ product
    documentation below:

    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSFKSJ_8.0.0/com.ibm
    .mq.con.doc/q018610_.htm

The queue manager has initially been activated as described
    below:

    > strmqm -a XYZ
WebSphere MQ queue manager 'XYZ' is being activated.
The queue manager is associated with installation 'abc'.
WebSphere MQ queue manager 'XYZ' activated.
    mqm@test123 (0) 10:36 12/12/17 /var/mqm
    .
After running the update command, "strmqm -r", an infinite loop
can occur on the activated queue manager. If no new logfiles
    have been copied to /mqlog/XYZ.
    .
    The following example demonstrates this:
    .
    mqm@test123 (0) 10:36 12/12/17 /var/mqm
    > strmqm -r XYZ
WebSphere MQ queue manager 'XYZ' is being started for replay.
The queue manager is associated with installation 'abc'.
11 log records accessed on queue manager 'XYZ' during the log
    replay phase.
11 log records accessed on queue manager 'XYZ' during the log
    replay phase.
11 log records accessed on queue manager 'XYZ' during the log
    replay phase.
    ...
    ...
    .

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users using a backup queue manager or queue managers running
    with linear logging.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A logic error with the queue manager's logger component
incorrectly requested an additional log extent be allocated
during startup. As it was not appropriate to allocate a new
extent in this case, this caused the queue manager to hang.

Problem conclusion

  • MQ code has been modified to fix problem.
