IT22337: SUCCESSFUL 'RESTORE VM' DESPITE SERVER STORAGE POOL ACCESS ERRORS ANS1314E

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The 'RESTORE VM' operation ONLY from Periodic FULL or INCR
    legacy backup images (as opposed to IFFUL or IFINCR incremental
    forever type of backups) can complete successfully despite
    storage pool errors that prevents some data to be restored.
    This produces a restored VMware guest that is corrupted and for
    example cannot boot or is missing disk data.

    As seen above it appears to complete successfully, but in the
    dsmerror.log you can for example see several errors like :
    
    ANS1314E File data currently unavailable on server
    
    IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection
    for VMware version 8.1 on Windows x64 and Linux x86 platforms.
    
    This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive
    Client which is the data mover for Data Protection for
    VMware 7.1. If you are using Data Protection for VMware
    7.1.3 and higher refer to APAR IT23977.

Problem conclusion

  • Errors during vm restore of legacy Periodic Full and Incremental
