APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Instant Restore/Instant Access does not restore original guest
  UUID that is stored in the VM backup image on the IBM Spectrum
  Protect server.
  A Full VM restore will restore the guest with the original
  guest UUID as designed.
  The above is only true if both following conditions are met :
  1. Client option 'vmname' or IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual
  Environment - Data Protection for VMware GUI is NOT being used
  - and -
  2. The original guest or any other guest using the same UUID is
  NOT present in the VMware environment.
  
  The client Instant Restore/Instant Access process will restore
  the guest with a guest UUID that is automatically generated by
  the VMware environment upon creation and power on of the guest
  in the beginning of the restore process.
  
  Products affected:
  IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client version
  7.1.x on Windows x64 and Linux x86 platforms.
  Note: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the
  Data Protection for VMware. In Data Protection for VMware
  environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the
  data mover.
  
  This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual
  Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1.x. If you are using
  Data Protection for VMware 8.1.4, refer to APAR IT20983

Local fix

• Use the Full VM restore to have the original UUID.
  If the guest is already restored, to update the VMware guest
  manually see :
  "Changing or keeping a UUID for a moved virtual machine"
