IT22038: CLIENT MAY GIVE "RC 0" WHEN A FILE COULD NOT BE DELETED DURING ARCHIVE PROCESSING WITH "-DELETEFILES" OPTION

APAR status

Error description

  • When running an 'ARCHIVE' command using the "-DELETEFILES"
    option, the session can end with Return Code of 0 when files are
     not deleted from the client.   This can happen if the files are
     locked so cannot be deleted.  This Return Code says that the
    operation was Successful but we see a message saying the delete
    was Unsuccessful.
    
    For example:-
    
    DSMC ARCHIVE "\\dir\test.txt"   -deletefiles
    
    tsm> ARCHIVE -ARCHMC=standard -deletefiles
    "D:\_tsm_test_files\ha.4.xml"
    Archive function invoked.
    
    Normal File-->               579
    \\kelt3\d$\_tsm_test_files\ha.4.xml [Sent]
    Unsuccessful deletion of archived file
    \\kelt3\d$\_tsm_test_files\ha.4.xml
    Archive processing of '\\kelt3\d$\_tsm_test_files\ha.4.xml'
    finished without failure.
    
    Using the command "echo %errorlevel%"  gives a '0'
    
    This should end with a Return Code of 8 - "The operation
    completed with at least one warning message"

Problem conclusion

  • If a file is locked during processing, an attempt to delete that
    file will fail and a message wil be reported. However, the
    return code of the dsmc executable will report successful
    execution via RC_OK (0). The code has been changed to display
    new warning message and more appropriate return code (8).
