Error description

  • During an MQ installation the mqconfig script runs to display
operating system limits which may need to be tuned for MQ to
run properly. Included in the mqconfig output are user limits
for the root user, which may not be relevant to running MQ.
    .
      Current User Limits (root)
nofile (-Hn) 4096 files IBM>=10240 FAIL
nofile (-Sn) 4096 files IBM>=10240 FAIL

Local fix

  • Ignore user limits reported for the root user. Run the mqconfig
script manually as the 'mqm' user, and as any other user in the
mqm group who creates or starts queue managers, to ensure their
user limits are sufficient for MQ.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    Users installing MQ

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The mqconfig tool analyzes and lists the user limits for the
user who runs the command. MQ installations run as the root
user and hence the mqconfig script run as part of installation
always analyzes the user limits for the root user. If the root
user is not one of the MQ administrative users (members of mqm
group) then the mqconfig analysis during the MQ installation
might not be relevant. This had the potential to be misleading
    for customers during the installation

Problem conclusion

  • The mqconfig script has been modified to display appropriate
messages about the user whose configuration is being tested.
