IT19458: BACKUP VM MAY DISPLAY INCORRECT ERROR MESSAGES WHEN THE OPERATION FAILS DUE TO A NETWORK ERROR

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If a network error occurred while retrieving control files
  during a VM backup, the operation may fail with ANS4174E,
  ANS1228E, and ANS5056E messages:
  
  ANS4174E Full VM backup of VMware Virtual Machine '<vmname>'
  failed with RC=105 mode=Incremental Forever - Incremental,target
  node name='<target nodename>', data mover node name='<datamover
  nodename>'
  ANS1228E Sending object <vmname> fails.
  ANS5056E Cannot find the directory/path.
  
  These messages are incorrect in this situation, and it may take
  a long time to return these errors.  It is expected that backup
  vm terminates quickly and with the appropriate messages that
  indicate a network error occurred.

  IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive Client version
  6.3, 6.4, and 7.1 on Linux and Windows platforms
  Note: The Backup-Archive Client is a prerequisite to using the
  Data Protection for VMware. In Data Protection for VMware
  environments, the Backup-Archive Client is also known as the
  data mover.
  
  This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual
  Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0. If you are using
  Data Protection for VMware 8.1.0, refer to APAR IT19953.
