Error description
A snapdiff backup (snapshot difference) performed by an user that is connected remotely using Microsoft Remote Desktop, will be a traditional incremental backup instead of the expected differences snapshot when the user disconnects from the remote session between backup runs. If snapdiff backups are scheduled, the next scheduled backup after a remotely connected user initiated backup will also again be a traditional increment backup. The client uses a staging directory to keep snapdiff information between backup runs. The client option used to define that directory is STAGINGDIRECTORY. By default, when this option is not set, the location of this directory follows these rules : The client checks for the existence of the USER environment variables in the following order, and uses the first path found: 1. The path that is specified by the TMP user variable 2. The path that is specified by the TMP system variable 3. The path that is specified by the TEMP user variable 4. The path that is specified by the TEMP system variable 5. The Windows system directory The unexpected traditional incremental backup is seen because the snapdiff information stored in the staging directory used to enable difference snapshot backup is deleted because the directory itself is deleted when the user logs off from the Remote Desktop session. Local fix
Avoid using a remote desktop connected user to perform the backups or define a custom location that will not be affected with the client option : STAGINGDIRECTORY

Problem conclusion
Beginning with version 8.1.2 snapshot differential backups on both Windows and Linux x86/86_64 platforms no longer use the stagingdirectory option for storing snapshot differential change log files. The new option snapdiffchangelogdir is used to specify the location of the snapshot differential change log files.
