APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • MQ 8.0 dspmqver hangs when running by user or when invoked
    indirectly by utilities such as rpm in Linux.
    .
    There are no FDC files, no error messages.
    .
    Upon further investigation, it was found that the there was an
    extra blank line at the end of the MQ installation ini file:
    /etc/opt/mqm/mqinst.ini
    .
    After removing the extra blank line, then dspmqver worked fine
    and the rpm command in Linux was able to work fine too. This
    problem might
    also occur if there is a comment line instead of a blank line.
    
    Examples:
    
    Primary:
       <blank line>
       Name=Installation16
    
    Primary:
       Name=Installation16
      <blank line>
    
    Primary:
      #comment
       Name=Installation16
    
    Primary:
       Name=Installation16
         #comment
    
    Other MQ commands - setmqinst, dspmqinst, dspmq (dspmq -o all) -
    are also affected by this problem.
    

Local fix

  • Check if there is an extra blank line at the end of the file:
      /etc/opt/mqm/mqinst.ini
    If affirmative, remove it. Then try dspmqver or rpm again.

    A coding error meant that MQ utility routines did not correctly
    handle blank lines or lines with comments in the mqinst.ini
    file.
    

Problem conclusion

  • MQ has been modified to correctly handle the blank lines or
    lines with comment in the mqinst.ini file.
