Error description
Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware provides a database level recovery from virtual guest backups using Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server and Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server. Depending on the disk and partition layout of the protected VM a restore from VMVSS backup might fail with the following error sequence in dsmerror.log: ANS5250E An unexpected error was encountered. TSM function name : objEnumGetNextObj TSM function : Unable to find volume '\\MySQLServer\disk' for file '\\MySQLServer\disk\SQLDIR' in snap volume list TSM return code : 105 TSM file : ..\..\common\ba\objenum.cpp (1161) ANS5250E An unexpected error was encountered. TSM function name : rpDoFileCopy TSM function : objEnumGetNextObj() failed. TSM return code : 974 TSM file : ..\..\common\ba\restproc.cpp (6405) ANS5266E File-level copy restore of 'TESTDB' failed. ANS9892E Unable to find snapshot(s) in the local repository. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: This problem was observed when restoring from a VMVSS backup that was created for an environment where the enumeration order in "Partition ###" column of the diskpart utility output does not match the physical order of partitions on disks that can be seen in Disk Manager. For example the problem can occur if a diskpart is used to create partitions in order "extended" -> "primary" -> "logical": DISKPART> create partition primary size=80000 DISKPART> create partition extended size=20000 DISKPART> create partition primary size=100000 DISKPART> create partition logical size=20000 DISKPART> list partition Partition ### Type Size Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Primary 78 GB 1024 KB Partition 0 Extended 19 GB 78 GB Partition 3 Logical 19 GB 78 GB Partition 2 Primary 97 GB 97 GB Please note that the partition order according to the "Partition ###" column is the following (excluding Partition 0 of type "Extended"): 78GB (Partition 1) -> 97 GB (Partition 2) -> 19 GB (Partition 3) This is the order in which these partition has been created. But in disk manager the partitions will be shown in the physical order on the disk: 78GB -> 19 GB -> 97 GB Also, it can be shortly seen during restore that the volume mounted to the mountpoint C:\TEMP\TSMVMVSS<timestamp><disk letter> is wrong. In particular, it can be detected by checking the size of the mounted partition. Local fix
Mount the snapshots using Recovery agent and restore database files from the mounted snapshot manually.

Problem conclusion
IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware has been updated to fix the disk partition enumeration problem.
Temporary fix
A fix for this problem is currently targeted for Tivoli Storage Manager Client on Windows for interim fix package 7.1.6.3 Note1: Until a Data Protection for VMware packaged fix of a fixing Tivoli Storage Manager Client level is available, Data Protection for VMware customers can install and use a fixed level of the the Tivoli Storage Manager Client in their environment. Note 2: The Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Client is a part of the Data Protection for VMware. In Data Protection for VMware environments, the TSM Client is also known as the data mover. Note 3: This is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
