Error description

• A VMware guest backup with application protection may fail
  because of a non-english VMware message as in the following
  example :
  
  ANS9365E VMware vStorage API error for virtual machine
  '<vmguestname>'.
    TSM function name : ListFilesInGuest
    TSM file          : ..\..\common\vm\vmvisdk.cpp (8936)
    API return code   : 12
    API error message : SOAP 1.1 fault: "":ServerFaultCode[no
  subcode]
  "Datei C:\Users\mr17fe\AppData\Local\Temp\TSM wurde nicht
  gefunden"
  Detail:
  
  This particular example displays the error because a temporary
  directory does not exist or is empty in the guest.
  This is normal in application protection backup processing and
  the subsequent step is to create the directory if not present.
  This message will happen when the vStorage Backup Server uses a
  non-english locale.
  
  Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
  Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments - Data
  Protection for VMware 6.4.x and 7.1.x on Windows or Linux for
  Windows guests.

Local fix

• Temporarily use English locale for the vStorage Backup Server
  or
  Manually create the temporary directories in the guest :
  C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp
  C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\manifest
  where <user> is the user whose credentials were stored in the
  vStorage Backup Server registry with the client command :
  dsmc set password -type=vmguest '<guestname>' '<user>'
  '<password>'

Problem conclusion

• Enhanced detection of file not found error.
  

Temporary fix

• A fix for this problem is currently targeted for Tivoli Storage
  Manager Client on Windows x64 and Linux x86_64 for interim fix
  package 7.1.6.3
  Note1: Until a Data Protection for VMware packaged fix of a
  fixing Tivoli Storage Manager Client level is available, Data
  Protection for VMware customers can install an use a fixed level
  of the the Tivoli Storage Manager Client in their environment.
