Error description

  • When using the Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments -
    VMware File restore UI,
a Linux LVM mount point may show as VOLUME1, VOLUME2, VOLUME3,
    etc rather
than the true mount point name.
In this specific case the Linux volume group name and/or logical
volume name contains a dash "-".
    Example:
    Volume Group Logical Volume
    "LV-group" "LV-Volume"
The full path to the logical volume:
    /dev/LV-group/LV-Volume
While the mount points show as VOLUME1, VOLUME2, data is able to
be restored, but only to an
    alternate location.
    Initial impact: medium
    Platforms affected: Linux
    Versions affected: 6.4, 7.1.x

Local fix

  • Restore the data to an alternate location.

    * Note 1: The Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) Client is a *
    * prerequisite to using the Data Protection for VMware. In *
    * Data Protection for VMware environments, the TSM Client is *
    * also known as the data mover. *
    * Note 2: This is subject to change at the discretion of IBM. *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager wasn't able to detect LVM volume
group names or logical volume names if the name contained a
dash. The problem happened due to the fact that after being
mounted the dash character in the name turned into double dash.
After applying the fix the Tivoli Storage for Virtual
Environment will correctly detect and display LVM names with
    dashes.

Temporary fix
