Error description
When backing up root ('/') filesystem and this filesystem is BTRFS, objects in subvolumes from '/' are skipped when these subvolumes are not mounted. When these subvolumes are not mounted, they should backup as part of the BTRFS. Backup completion state will be successful, but objects will not be backed up. If the BTRFS subvolume is mounted, it will be backed up as a separate file system and stored under the appropriate file space name on the Tivoli Storage Manager Server. See also APAR IT08842, that has fixed this behavior on non-root filesystems. | MDVPARTL 5698ISMCL 7.1.2.3 | Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All supported versions of Tivoli Storage Manager Client Linux Customer/L2 Diagnostics Initial Impact: Medium Additional Keywords: Spectrum, Protect, TSM
Local fix
Defining the unmounted subvolumes as VIRTUALMOUNTPOINT in dsm.sys will backup the subvolumes. Note: upon the fix, the subsequent backup of the entire root fs will re-backup all the unmounted subvolumes under the root file space on the Tivoli Storage Manager Server.

This problem is currently * * projected to be fixed in level 7.1.6. * * Note that until this level is available, this information is * * subject to change at the discretion of IBM. * ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
While running either backup or archive of the root (Btrfs) file system, unmounted Btrfs subvolumes were not traversed. As a result, the subvolumes directories (and all the objects underneath them) were skipped from the operation. After the fix, all eligible objects from the root (Btrfs) file system are processed as expected.
