Error description

  • When node validation is performed in the Tivoli Data Protection
for VMware GUI, the SUSE Linux version validation fails for
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 SP4.

Following message is seen in dsmerror.log:
dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss ANS3164W The minimum level for 'Suse
Linux Enterprise Server' is 'SLES 11 SP 3'. Your current level
    is 'SLES 11 SP 0'.

Earlier versions and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 are
    validated correctly.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager 7.1.3.x or higher Client on Linux

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
Node validation code was changed to support SUSE Linux
Enterprise Server 12. SUSE moved the server release info from
/etc/SuSE-release to /etc/os-release. During validation, the
release file that is checked depends on the SLES server version.
In SLES 11 SP4, the release info was also moved to
    /etc/os-release, causing validation to fail.

Customer see that node validation fails after mount proxy setup
via the Tivoli Data Protection for VMware GUI configuration
wizard. Also a message in the dsmerror.log can be seen. But
customer still can continue and start file level restore
operations. So the real functionality is not impacted.

Problem conclusion

  • After the fix node validation for all SLES 11 and SLES 12
sublevels works fine when greater or equal to SLES 11 SP3 which
    is the minimum supported level.
