Error description

  • After upgrading WebSphere MQ v7.5 Managed File Transfer to IBM
MQ v8 Managed File Transfer, file-to-message text mode transfers
do not write a CCSID value in the RFH2 header of the message.
Browsing the message on the queue after the transfer has taken
place shows that the CCSID value in the RFH2 has the value 0.
No errors in the transfer are observed.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of IBM MQ v8 Managed File Transfer who
    perform text mode, file-to-message transfers.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When performing text mode, file-to-message managed transfers
with IBM MQ v8 Managed File Transfer (MFT) the RFH2 header of
the message written to the destination queue had the value 0 for
the CCSID field and a blank format field. It was expected that
the RFH2 CCSID field contained the CCSID value corresponding to
the destination character encoding specified in the managed
transfer request. For example, if the destination character
encoding was specified as "windows-1256", the value of the CCSID
field in the written message should have been 1256.

Problem conclusion

  • IBM MQ v8 Managed File Transfer (MFT) agent code has been
updated such that, for text mode, file-to-message managed
transfers the CCSID field in the RFH2 header is set to the CCSID
corresponding to the destination character encoding specified in
the managed transfer request. In addition, for text mode
transfers, the format field of the RFH2 header will be set to
    MQSTR.
