Error description
Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware provides in-guest database level recovery options for Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Exchange Server databases when one of the following products and components listed below is used for the restore process: - Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases: Data Protection for Microsoft SQL Server - Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection for Microsoft Exchange Server - Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager on Windows These Data Protection for VMware generated backups are displayed as VMVSS type in the MMC GUI of the product and component performing the restore operation. A restore of such a backup may fail with the following error messages: ============================================================ Request : VSS RESTORE Component List : 'EXDB01\<SnapshotGUID>'(full, TSM) Local DSMAGENT Node : EX1 Mount Wait : Yes ------------------------------------------------------------ Backup to be restored: <EXDB01\<SnapshotGUID> : VMVSS : full : 01/06/2016 11:15:00> Restoring 'EXDB01' via file-level copy from snapshot(s). Examine the Windows Event Logs and DSMERROR.LOG for additional details. Customer/L2 Diagnostics: The problem is caused by the fact the disk numeration in Windows and VMWare are not in same order. It is expected that VMware's disk number is equal to 'Windows disk number + 1'. Local fix
Make sure the VMWare disk numeration is equal to 'Windows disk number + 1' or use the Recovery Agent of Data Protection for Virtual environments to manually mount the correct disk snapshot and copy the data with Windows Explorer to a local disk.
