Error description

  • A queue manager running from an MQ 8.0.0.4 installation has been
    started at Command Level 802. For example, this command has
    been run: strmqm -eCMDLEVEL=802 QMNAME

    The problem is seen if the user uses the setmqm program to try
    to change the installation for that queue manager from 8.0.0.4
    to 8.0.0.3.

    The setmqm program fails with:
    AMQ5688: Unable to associate queue manager '<qmgr_name>' with
    installation '<Installation_name>'.

    This operation ought to be valid, because CommandLevel 802 is
    supported by both 8.0.0.3 and 8.0.0.4.

    The same problem is seen if the CommandLevel was changed to 802
    in both the following scenarios:
    1.Queue manager is changed to CommandLevel 802 while running
    8.0.0.3, then is changed to an 8.0.0.4 installation, then is
    changed back to an 8.0.0.3 installation.
    2.Queue manager is changed to CommandLevel 802 while running
    8.0.0.4, then is changed to an 8.0.0.3 installation.

Local fix

  • ONLY if CommandLevel=802 then the following workaround is valid.

    Change the text in qmstatus.ini from
      MinimumRequiredVersion=8.0.0.4
    to
      MinimumRequiredVersion=8.0.0.3
    and re-run the setmqm command.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    The setmqm program reads text from the qmstatus.ini file to
    decide whether a the target installation is at a minimum level
    of MQ code required for the command level that the user has
    configured.

    The wrong text had been stored in the qmstatus.ini file during
    the running of strmqm -eCMDLEVEL=802 QMNAME

    The wrong text was: MinimumRequiredVersion=8.0.0.4

Problem conclusion

  • The IBM MQ product code has been corrected so that the correct
    text is stored in the qmstatus.ini file during the running of
    strmqm -eCMDLEVEL=802 QMNAME

    For CommandLevel=802 the correct text is:
    MinimumRequiredVersion=8.0.0.3
