Error description

• During the backup of virtual machines using the IBM Tivoli
  Storage Manager client, messages like the following may be
  seen in the output and dsmerror.log:

  A service trace may show an additional message like:

   The other side has aborted/closed the session.
  
  The server activity log will only show a message like:

    LAN-Free connection failed.  (SESSION: 401487)
  
  The backup then may finish successfully.
  This situation may occur for the first time when the value of
  the client option VMMAXParallel is increased compared to
  previous backups.
  
  IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client versions affected:
  6.3, 6.4, and 7.1, on Linux and Windows

Local fix

• Lower the option VMMAXPARALLEL to avoid the issue.
