Error description

  • When performing a Snapdiff Backup of a CMODE Netapp
    appliance which is specifying the UNC name the backup
    will fail with ANS2831E
    .
    The following error is seen in the DSMERROR.LOG:
    ANS2831E Incremental by snapshot difference cannot be performed
    on 'volumename' as it is of type 'Unknown' and is not a
    NetApp/N-Series 'CIFS' volume.

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    A Tivoli Storage Manager client trace with the following
    traceflags enabled Service, Snapshot, Snapshot_Detail will
    show the following errors:
    ntrc.cpp( 736): TransWin32RC(): Translated Win32 RC 2 (0x0000000
    2) from
    GetDevIoVolInfo(): from call to psGetDevIoHandle() for volume '\
    \.\volumename:'
    to TSM RC 104
    ntrc.cpp( 798): TransWin32RC(): SnapshotErrMode = 0; dwWin32RC =
     2
    psfsinfo.cpp(1630): fioStatFS():  GetLVAttrib(\\vsrex\rexeeg$) e
    rror = 104

Local fix

  • Ensure that drive letter mapping is used with the backup is
    being ran:
    net use z: \\xxxx\xxxxx$
    Use inc z: -snapdiff (on the client command line to perform the
    backup)

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been changed so that the client uses now Windows
    APIs WNet* to enumerate network resources or existing
    connections.
    For the old Windows API NetUseEnum() the new testflag called
    NETUSEENUM was added. The flag is specified in the client
    options file (dsm.opt) as follows:
    TESTFLAGS NETUSEENUM

Temporary fix

  • An interim fix is currently targeted for version 7.1.4.1.
    The client can use Windows APIs WNet* to enumerate network
    resources or existing connections.
    For this purpose the new testflag called WNETENUM was added. The
    flag is specified in the client
    options file (dsm.opt) as follows:
    TESTFLAGS WNETENUM
    Note that until the interim fix is actually available, this
    information is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
