APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When MQGET calls are made with IBM MQ Advanced Message Security
(AMS) enabled in an IBM MQ 8.0
    environment, the
value of the WaitInterval field in the
GetMessageOption (GMO) structure has been observed to
    o be
decremented when a message is returned.
    Previous
versions of the product did not have this same
    issue.

Local fix

  • Modify the application logic to initialize the WaitInterval
    before every MQGET call

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of IBM MQ version 8 using AMS where messages can be
smaller than the buffer passed into MQGET.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A logic error within the IBM MQ AMS interceptor code caused the
WaitInterva field in the GMO structure returned by MQGET to be
reduced by the time spent in MQGET if the buffer was too small
to hold the entire message and the options included
    MQGMO_ACCEPT_TRUNCATED_MSG.

This presented a problem for applications which re-used the same
GMO structure for subsequent MQGET API calls.

Problem conclusion

  • The MQ AMS interceptor code has been updated to ensure that the
original WaitInterval is returned in the GMO when the MQGET
    returns.
