IT11070: PUREAPPLICATION SYSTEM: ERROR BUILDING A CUSTOM WINDOWS 2012 IMAGE USING THE IBM CONSTRUCTION AND COMPOSITION TOOL

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer built a Windows 2012 Standard and Datacenter image
  using the IBM Construction and Composition Tool (ICCT).
  
  He got an error at the last step, "Virtual machines are ready,
  provisioning middleware ",  during pattern deployment if
  pattern includes either image. The provisioned VM works fine,
  it is from pattern instance perspective, the middleware
  provisioning failed.
  
  The error in the 0config.log file is:
  Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "c:\0config\_0config.py", line 444, in _0config
      updateHostsFile(ROOTCA_CN_IP, ROOTCA_CN)
    File "c:\0config\_0config.py", line 174, in updateHostsFile
      os.remove(hostFile)
  WindowsError: [Error 32] The process cannot access the file
  because it is being used by another process:
  'C:\\Windows\\System32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts'
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• There was a timing issue in the code creating a temporary
  Windows hosts file, updating and replacing the hosts file.
  

Problem conclusion

• The fix is included in the IBM OS Pattern Kit for Windows
  version 2.2.0.0 released with PureApplication System version
  2.2.0.0.
  
  An emergency fix has also been provided to apply to a Windows
  image and fix this issue.
