APAR status

Error description

  • Running 'update node' on Tivoli Storage Manager Server fails
    with
     'ANR2150E: UPDATE NODE: Node <node_name> is currently accessing
     the server',
    while there is no active session for that node seen with the
    server command 'query session'.
    
    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
    All supported versions on all supported platforms

    Running 'update node' on Tivoli Storage Manager Server fails
    with
     'ANR2150E: UPDATE NODE: Node <node_name> is currently accessing
     the server'
    
    Example:
    tsm: XXXXXX>update node <node_name> maxnummp=2
    ANR2150E UPDATE NODE: Node <node_name> is currently accessing
    the server.
    ANS8001I Return code 12.
    
    tsm: XXXXXX>select * from sessions where client_name='NODE_NAME'
    ANR2034E SELECT: No match found using this criteria.
    ANS8001I Return code 11.
    
    When checking the open sessions on the Tivoli Storage Manager
    Server with 'show allopen', there still are hanging sessions
    left for the involved node. Below example shows close date is
    00/00/1900 00:00:00, meaning the session was never closed.

    This problem only happens when a lanfree session failed for the
    impacted node due to a communication error between the storage
    agent and the Tivoli Storage Manager server. The error causing
    this stalled session can be found when searching the server
    actlog using the 'Open session' id from 'show allopen'.
    The Node Name can also be found in the 'show allopen' output
    
    An example from the filtered actlog when searching for the
    session that failed can be:

Local fix

  • Restart the server to reset the open session
