APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A Tivoli Storage Manager client auto-deployment can silently
  fail on Linux operating systems if the KornShell (ksh) package
  is not installed.  The deployment schedule will report success
  despite the operation failing.  Note that ksh is no longer
  installed by default on many recent Linux distributions and
  releases.
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
  Attempt to manually initiate the client deployment script on
  the affected Linux client.  To do this, first identify the
  exact command issued by the scheduler during the failed
  deployment.  To do this, review the client schedule logs for
  records that are similar to the following example:
  
  Executing Operating System command or script:
     /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/IBM_ANR_UNX/v7122/deployclient.sh>
     /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/IBM_ANR_UNX/v7122/upmin#
     schedule=lnx_deploy#domain=standard#server=tsm.ibm.com
     #port=1500#node=LINUX-TEST-1
  If this command returns the following, then you are impacted
  by this APAR since ksh could not be found:
  
    ./deployclient.sh: /bin/ksh: bad interpreter: No such
    file or directory
  
  
  If the deployclient.sh command itself is not found, or
  returns something else, then you are not impacted by this
  APAR.
  

Local fix

• Manually install the ksh package from your Linux distribution's
  package repositories on the affected client and initiate
  another auto-deployment.

Problem conclusion

• The deployment script does not longer require Korn Shell to be
  installed in an operating system. It is now possible to run the
  script in any POSIX-compliant shell.
