IT10792: CANCELED LANFREE SESSION MAY CAUSE THE CLIENT TO FAIL OR CRASH WHEN USING SHAREDMEM

IBM Spectrum Protect client 7.1.4.x interim fix downloads

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If an API lanfree session is canceled by a user, or for a
  pre-emption, the application using the API may hang or see a
  crash of the tsmapi64.dll. This happens when the API main thread
  completes its work for the loss of the session before the the
  function thread.

  This affects 7.1 and earlier code and can affect any application
  using the windows 64bit API for lanfree backups and sharedmem
  for the commethod. For example the windows eventlog can show the
  below for TDP for Oracle.

  The client error log may show a -72 error that a session failed,
  and the backup will show as completed

Local fix

• avoiding preventable canceled session such as pre-emtions can
  minimize the occurrences, or use TCPIP for the LANFREECOMMMETHOD

Problem conclusion

• Now if LanFree session between server or STA is canceled TSM
  client or TSM API
  finishes its work correctly
  

Temporary fix

• A fix for this problem is currently targeted for interim fix
  package 7.1.4.4.
  Until the interim fix is actually available this information is
  subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
