APAR status

Error description

  • Using the MQ Explorer to administer an MQ V8 queue manager which
is configured for use with LDAP, it is not possible to define an
LDAP group name longer than the operating system maximum.

Local fix

  • Use the setmqaut command line tool instead of the MQ Explorer
    interface.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects users of the MQ Explorer Version 8 connecting
to an IBM i, UNIX or Linux queue manager who have configured
LDAP and are attempting to set, find or compare a group name
longer than 12 characters when assigning group authority to MQ
    Resources.

    Platforms affected:
Windows, Linux on x86-64, Linux on x86

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
WebSphere MQ administrators have the ability to grant
authorities to other users via WebSphere MQ Explorer. When a
user attempted to grant authorities to an LDAP group via
WebSphere MQ Explorer they found that there was a 12 character
limit despite the name of their LDAP group being greater than 12
    characters.

Whilst it is correct that WebSphere MQ Explorer sets a limit on
group names for Linux and Unix operating system groups it is not
correct that the LDAP groups should have the same limit set.

Problem conclusion

  • WebSphere MQ Explorer has been altered to increase the group
name field length if the Queue Manager on which the user is
attempting to alter authorities has an LDAP connection
    established.
