Error description

  • Power Virtualization Center (PowerVC) installer modifies the
file '/etc/security/limits.conf' with 'nofiles' instead of
'nofile'.

The following entries are added by PowerVC to
/etc/security/limits.conf.
* soft nofiles 65536
* hard nofiles 65536
root soft nofiles 65536
root hard nofiles 65536

These invalid entries result in the following errors in
/var/log/secure:
Feb  6 11:20:57 sys19lpd sudo: pam_limits(sudo:session): unknown
limit
item 'nofiles'

Impact:
Correct value for 'nofile' will not be picked up and as a result
 scaling will be impacted.

Local fix

  • Modify '/etc/security/limits.conf' and replace 'nofiles' with
'nofile'.

* hard nofile 65536
root soft nofile 65536
root hard nofile 65536

Problem summary

  • Code changes have been implemented to avoid adding these lines
to '/etc/security/limits.conf'. The fix for this issue will be
available in PowerVC installer of future versions of the
product.
