Error description
The Tivoli Storage Manager Client can calculate the "Total number of bytes inspected" incorrectly, resulting in the figure figure displayed in the ending client statistics being much larger than the actual filesystems being processed. For example: Successful incremental backup of '/mydata' Total number of objects inspected: 420,400 Total number of objects backed up: 19,001 Total number of objects updated: 0 Total number of objects rebound: 0 Total number of objects deleted: 0 Total number of objects expired: 62 Total number of objects failed: 2 Total number of bytes inspected: 17.30 TB <<==== Total number of bytes transferred: 1.90 GB Data transfer time: 19.06 sec Network data transfer rate: 104,902.98 KB/sec Aggregate data transfer rate: 14,524.46 KB/sec Objects compressed by: 0% Total data reduction ratio: 99.99% Elapsed processing time: 00:02:17 In the above example, the /mydata filesystem was only 145GB in size, but we reported inspecting 17.30TB of data. The reason is a problem with the algorithm miscalculating the value and including this for multiple versions of the same files during the backup from the Tivoli Storage Manager server. This does not affect the actual backup of data, nor the overall backup time and the amount transferred is correctly reported.
