Error description
Incremental forever backups of Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machines might be corrupted. The problem is due to a logic error in the Tivoli Storage Manager backup-archive client (data mover) code that identifies changed sectors. No error messages are logged during affected backup operations. However the affected backup data is incomplete and thus corrupted. Restore operations for the corrupted backup data are also reported as successful. No error messages are logged. The problem is not detectable until the restored data is accessed, either from a fully restored system or from a snapshot mounted by the Recovery Agent. Possible symptoms include: * One or more files might not contain the expected content * Operating system messages indicate file system corruption * Other erratic operating system or application behavior Portions of the corrupted Hyper-V backups might be recoverable. For example, it might be possible to use the Recovery Agent to recover certain needed files provided that those files were not affected by the incorrect backup data. It is not possible to determine in advance whether a given file in a Hyper-V virtual machine backup is affected. Note: The external symptoms are similar to those of APAR IT04831. However this APAR (IT05734) has a different root cause. Affected product versions: Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V 7.1.1 when using Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive Client version 7.1.1.0 or 7.1.1.1 as the data mover.

Temporary fix
Tivoli Storage Manager Client on Windows 7.1.1.2 Note: Until a Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V packaged fix of a fixing TSM Client level is available, Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V customers can install and use a fixed level of the the TSM Client in their environment.
