APAR status

Error description

• In a disaster recovery situation, an alternate VMware virtual
  environment will not have a similar virtual switch or port
  configured.  Restoring a Virtual Machine using the Tivoli
  Storage Manager client will remove any network interface which
  cannot be found on the ESX host.  This is detailed under APAR
  IC76147.
  In the event there are available virtual switches or port groups
  configured the restore processing will not select them.  The
  result is that in disaster situations, the VMs restored will
  need to have their networks reconfigured. This situation will be
  evident when seeing the following message during VM restores:
   ANS1788I The target ESX host is missing the required
   distributed virtual port group, the virtual machine NIC cannot
   be restored.

Problem conclusion

• New options are added for restore:
  VMDEFAULTDVPORTGROUP - dvportgroup to use, when the original
  portgroup not found,
  VMDEFAULTDVSWITCH - dvSwitch to which this portgroup belongs.
  VMDEFAULTNETWORK - network to use, when no portgroups exist on
  target host.
