Error description
If client side deduplication is enabled and a file failed to be sent to the server during backup, the Tivoli Storage Manager client can crash while he tries resending the file. For example if a file is changing during a scheduled backup, the following messages will be seen: ANS1228E Sending of object 'FILENAME' failed. ANS4037E Object 'FILENAME' changed during processing. Object skipped. ANS1512E Scheduled event 'SCHEDULENAME' failed. Return code = 12. A core dump is generated (when the file will by tried to resend) and the stack on Linux looks like is: pthread_cond_wait@@GLIBC_2.3.2 () from /lib64/libpthread.so.0 psWaitCondition(pthread_cond_t*, pthread_mutex_t*) () pkWaitCb(conditionBundle*) () fifoObject::fifoQgetNextWaitNoTS(int) () fifoObject::fifoQgetNextWait(int) () DedupMT::GetNext(fifoObject*, void**) () DedupMT::GetNextInQueueObj(QueueObj**) () DedupMT::dedupThread() () callDedupThread(void*) () start_thread () from /lib64/libpthread.so.0 clone () from /lib64/libc.so.6 Customer/L2 Diagnostics: It has been verified that this is a timing problem since the TivolI Storage Manager Client is not capable to manage correctly the situation described before. Here is the set of conditions that may lead to this issue (all must be true): 1. Client deduplication needs to be enabled during backup. 2. The system needs to be rather fast. 3. At least one of the files needs to be retried during processing (this affects changing files, files being in use and so on). 4. An high value for RESOURCEUTILIZATION option Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage Manager Client v6.x and 7.1 on all Platforms.
