APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• dsmagent.exe can crash during a restore or query operation of
  VSS objects due to a leftover "orphaned" object from a previous
  unsuccessful backup operation. The crash occurs while obtaining
  VSS backup version information from the Tivoli Storage Manager
  Server. This problem can affect the following Tivoli Storage
  Manager products:
  
   * Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail - Data Protection for
     Exchange
   * Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases - Data Protection for
     MSSQL
   * FlashCopy Manager for Windows
   * Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive Client for Microsoft
     Windows system state operations
  
  When the problem occurs the Microsoft Windows Application Event
  Log will contain an entry similar to this:
  
   Error <date time> Application Error 1000 (100) "Faulting
   application name: dsmagent.exe, version: 6.4.1.0, time stamp:
     0x51e8e62e
   Faulting module name: MSVCR100.dll, version: 10.0.40219.1.
  
  The query or restore operation will not run to successful
  completion.
  
  Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
  The crash occurs when an orphaned backup object exists for the
  affected application and node. The orphaned backup object was
  most likely created as part of an unsuccessful backup operation.
  
  The object can be identified by examining a SERVICE trace for
  dsmagent.exe (the Tivoli Storage Manager Remote Client Agent).
  Look for a line like the one below that contains elements
  "HL=<\BACKUP_STATE" and "groupMember = <0>" (without the
  quotation marks):

  Note: The above text appears in one line In the trace. Due to
  APAR width restrictions it is shown above as four lines of 64
  characters each followed by one line of 11 characters.
  
  
  The groupMember ID of 0 for a BACKUP_STATE object indicates that
  this object is an orphan.
  
  Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: All Tivoli Storage
  Manager Client 6.x and 7.x on all Windows.
