IO05050: EVDEV PERMISSIONS FOR /DEV/INPUT/EVENTS ARE RW FOR ROOT ONLY NSR 10292266271

APAR status

  • Closed as fixed if next.

Error description

  • The event associated with the keyboard, as listed in
    /proc/bus/input/devices, in /dev/input has permissions of 600,
which keeps non-root users from reading MSR data. Changing the
permissions to 666 fixes the problem. Question: Why does
evdev.ko create permissions that are root only for these devices
and how can this be changed?

Local fix

  • x=`cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep -2 keyboard | grep H: | \
    cut -f3 -d' '`

    chmod 666 /dev/input/$x

Note: This fix is only a suggestion and may not work on your
system. Consult the contents of /proc/bus/input/devices for the
correct event associated with the key board and chmod that
    device in /dev/input.
