IO04502: JPG FILES DO NOT OPEN IN THE WINDOWS PICTURE AND FAX VIEWER, EVEN THOUGH THE THE FILE TYPE IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE APPLICATION

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ESR: An User's machine is set to default to use shimgvw.dll
  (Windows
  Picture and Fax Viewer) as the file association for .JPG files.
  When they try to open a .jpg file in DM, they get 3 different
  possible
  errors
  When they switch the default viewer for a .jpg to Internet
  Explorer, it
  works fine.
  Version info: WinXPProSP2 shimgvw.dll (Windows Picture and Fax
  Viewer)
  version 6.0.2900.2180
  
  
  
  
   I have worked with the JPG view issue and figured out how to
  make the
  Picture and Fax Viewer the default JPG viewer.
  The reason this does not work like normal applications is
  because the
  viewer is a DLL that runs inside another application
  rundll32.exe.  When
  DM tries to launch a file it searches for associated
  applications not a
  dll the requires additional parameters.
  
  To make this work from Designer - Desktop - Desktop Templates
  modify the
  appropriate template for the user or group.  On the Desktop
  Applications
  tab enter the file type JPG, application Type Viewing, uncheck
  the
  launch associated application, in the application field enter:
  rundll32.exe shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen
  In the arguments enter :
  %Filename%
  

Local fix

• The Workaround is not a valid solution for the customer.  It
  would require far to many Desktop Templates.
  

Problem summary

• JPG files were not opened in the associated application, Windows
  Picture and Fax Viewer.
  

Problem conclusion

• The Fix is available in DB2 Document Manger v8.3 Fix Pack 5.
